About

Welcome, friend. I am glad we get to share some space together.

My name is Chelsea Buhrman and I am a South Florida native co-opted to live in Northern Indiana by my husband, Rick (the wisest, kindest man I know).

I have been a foster mother since 2013 and my husband and I in that time welcomed, loved and said goodbye to eight beautiful children ranging in age from 7 weeks to 9 years old. We still love them and regularly spend time with four of them.

We welcomed our second child (via my belly) into the world 6 weeks early. He has unexplainable lung, heart and brain issues that we are working through. He has been in the NICU for 3 1/2 months fighting for his life. He is the tenth child we have the privilege of loving and caring for. Our first precious baby is in heaven.

I consider myself a bibliophile and can usually be found reading six books at a time. The writers who have shaped me most are Dallas Willard, Greg Boyd, Karyn Purvis, NT Wright, Jean Vanier, Eugene Peterson, C.S. Lewis, Anne Lamott, and the saints and mystics who have bravely pressed into the heart of God and shown others that way, Thomas a’ Kempis and Madame Guyon in particular. (I also have a slight obsession with A.A. Milne of Winnie the Pooh and Beatrix Potter of Peter Rabbit.)

I love learning and have spent time in three different colleges, though I’ve never quite been able to nail down a degree. I most recently spent five semesters studying New Testament Greek at Bethel College. I hope my time learning in a college setting is not over.

Few things infuse life into my heart like being outdoors or in my garden, where I spend as much time as possible. I am also a Pilates enthusiast and adore an hour on a reformer or mat. I have also dabbled in ballet and carry a certification to teach barre.

This website was borne out of a desire to encourage anyone who is seeking to love others well, especially children (birthed, fostered, adopted, mentored), who is pursuing God’s justice for the most vulnerable among us, and those seeking the fullest kind of life.

I will also be writing about this new, unexpected chapter of our lives: living in the NICU and dealing with all the trauma that comes with that experience, and caring for a child who is medically fragile.

The name Tiny Bird comes from a saying of Jesus’ in Matthew: “Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.”

From one tiny bird to another: Grace and peace to you, friend.

With joy,

Chelsea
